The Meir was born from a series of weekly songwriting sessions in Meirstraat, a small street in Oud Gastel, The Netherlands. After meeting through a mutual acquaintance, Lars Zebregs, Bo Bodewitz and Raf Jansen discovered an immediate musical connection and began writing together almost every Monday. What started as informal sessions gradually evolved into a unique creative process and eventually into a band.

The musicians often describe their songwriting as less about constructing songs and more about allowing them to emerge naturally. By putting themselves fully at the service of the music, ideas seemed to come together without force, resulting in songs that balance atmosphere, emotion and melodic clarity.

Today, The Meir consists of Lars Zebregs (vocals, piano), Bo Bodewitz (bass), Jeroen Kraneveld (guitar), Charl Dijkhoff (drums) and Raf Jansen (keys, production). Their music moves between alternative pop and rock, combining organic instrumentation with carefully crafted production, dynamic arrangements and emotionally driven songwriting.

The band's name originates from Meirstraat, where its creative foundations were laid. The name also carries deeper associations: in Hebrew, "Me'ir" means "giving light," while the French "la mère" refers to a source or origin. Together, these meanings reflect the band's belief that music can illuminate, connect and reveal something meaningful beneath the surface.

With the release of their single FREE and the forthcoming album INFINITE, The Meir continues to explore themes of vulnerability, freedom, transition and hope through music that unfolds gradually and rewards repeated listening.
