Rockpool Dramas began as a solo recording project for Stanley Ward in his hometown of Sheffield in the U.K. After moving to the Netherlands for university Rockpool Dramas remained as an experiment in songwriting and recording, a way to test out ideas and share them with friends by self-recording and self releasing everything. However, after meeting musicians in Amsterdam, the project evolved into a four-piece lineup, allowing the songs to get louder and more dynamic, and the live sets more energetic. Taking inspiration from classic Americana and 90s Alt rock to add a transatlantic twist to British Indie, Rockpool Dramas sometimes feels like Pavement meets Postcard Records with a dose of Lo-Fi production. Currently working on their debut EP as a band, RD takes advantage of the incredible rhythm section of Niels Luitijn (Drums) and Aniol Torrents (Bass) by tracking the EP live in the studio with no click track, but at heart remains a homegrown project, with Lautaro Hochman (guitars) and Stan (guitars, vocals) shaping the tracks in their home studios. Tracks like ‘Grown Ups II’ showcase the band’s blend of wry lyricism overlayed onto driving drums and interlocking guitars. ‘Birdbath’ takes a different tact and slows things down a little, with more earnestness and a more stripped back lo-fi sound that builds towards a climax of exploding guitars and walls of distortion.
