DEMOTAPE 1 [the more experimental of 5 coming 2022 releases], was written and produced in a tent, on a roof in utrecht. stuck for a month between cape town and berlin, Phrazes made a studio in this limbo: getting power from a flat below, recording with birds in neighboring canopies and paying no rent. Phrazes is the berlin-based project of capetonian musician, robin molteno. DEMOTAPE 1: the immolation request of kerosene is softened with flute chords, deep synths, bells and neighbouring birds. bansuris + a borrowed acoustic lead the 1st chorus; a minilogue takes over the 2nd. isa is an instrumental ode, expanding the hook-motif of kerosene. tent, alone (improv/iphone) is an impromptu jam, recorded on an iphone and never meant for release; just the sudden urge to play and make something without thought or plan. no 'and' just is. reflect in the ice you skate; be playful with heavy blades. - the 5+ singles releasing across 2022 will gradually get heavier and faster.
