An attempt at uniformity through versatility, that’s how Party of the Mind’s debut album We’re Not Here can be best described. What once started in dark rehearsal rooms as a passion project of lead singer Thomas Wander and guitarist Wouter van Maanen’s, quickly grew out to be something much bigger. Drummer Sophie Neijts joined ten years ago, after which everything suddenly fell into place. After years of searching they found bass player Ralph Brink, who has been part of the band for five years now. Keyboard played and backing vocalist Mirre Balke was also part of the band for years, and plays a large part on the album. The many changes that the band has gone through come together on a versatile album, consisting of twelve songs each forming a piece of the puzzle. The band sees itself as a collective – each contributing to the music together without one leading voice, sound or influence. This approach makes way for the music to become a collage of different phases and many hello’s and goodbyes, with only a passion for music and pushing boundaries as the common thread throughout the years. On the album, this translates to a mix of more conventional pop-rock influences and surprising new-wave twists, resulting in a unique experience that never ceases to take you by surprise. We’re Not Here was produced, recorded entirely live and mixed by the band in their own studio, making it an unmistakable product of Party of the Mind. After multiple singles, music video’s and an EP, Party of the Mind will be releasing their debut album We’re Not Here this fall. A fitting name, because after years of exploring the underground scene of Amsterdam it is finally time for Party of the Mind to emerge to the surface. After guitarist and main composer Wouter van Maanen decided to leave the band, the three remaining members found themselves at a crossroads. However, they soon realized they cared too much about the music to never let this album see the light of day. And so after years of not being here, Party of the Mind now proudly presents their debut album We’re Not Here.
