Marky Wildtype is an Edinburgh based songwriter/musician/producer who has been plying his trade and honing his craft under various guises for many years. Most recently, he has been providing the buzzsaw guitar backbone of the vibrant heavy-rock-meets-trad instrumental alt-folk band The Jig Show. Songwriting has been a constant thread in his musical life, even if circumstances have sometimes conspired to push it out of focus. His first solo album, 2020’s ‘bruising words and bitter pills’ was a tentative dipping of the toe back into these once-familiar waters, while also charting new stylistic territories (from his steadfastly ‘ROCK’ beginnings) - as much testing whether the old muscle still worked as exploring new inspirations and approaches to songwriting. The second album ‘If Destroyed Still True’ then is a much more bold, confident affair. The songwriting has more depth and exploration, as does the instrumentation and production, while still keeping a strong focus on hooks, harmonies and memorable melody. At the same time, the subject matter is often deeply emotional, exploring the consequences of a tumultuous few years. Four singles have been released from the album so far - 'Tell Me Again', 'The Hole', 'Place of Peace' and 'Tomorrow'. Each showcases a different facet of the sounds and emotion explored throughout the album. In addition to writing the songs, Marky also fully arranged and performed all the parts (save for 1 & 1/2 tracks worth of drums) and recorded, mixed and mastered the album himself. It doesn’t come much more homemade and DIY than that! The album 'If Destroyed Still True' is released on 5th July 2024.
