Look Up Kiddo

Look Up Kiddo is the Berlin-based indie rock project of Dutch artist Luuk, blending the urgency of power pop, the grit of indie rock, and the emotional weight of a self-deprecating sad boy with something to prove. Expect big choruses, punchy guitars, and lyrics that hit like a late-night thought spiral. Luuk grew up on pop music, but his real musical awakening came as a teenager. As life got loud and so did his music. He started writing songs at 17 in a home where music wasn’t encouraged, which made it all the more essential. From that first breakthrough, he went on to join bands, study music, and experiment with different sounds, before circling back to the energy and honesty that first lit the spark. Look Up Kiddo is the result: a one-man project, for now, with songs that are uptempo, even joyful at first glance, but underneath, they tell stories of collapse, slow-burn anxiety, and learning to laugh in the middle of it all. “If you want to feel sad,” Luuk says, “just listen closely.” The upcoming debut EP was written, recorded, and produced by Luuk in his home studio. It tells the story of a personal downfall that unfolded in slow motion. It’s built on heartache, disillusionment, humor, and the occasional good idea that showed up in the shower. The result is a melodic mess, a love letter to making music when it feels like the only option. Luuk doesn’t have a live band yet, but he’s ready. “I’ve been quiet too long. Time is ticking.” Until then, Look Up Kiddo is what happens when you keep going, even on the way down.
