Liza Weald is the indie folk-project of 20-year-old Dutch singer-songwriter Lisa de Bruijn. She enchants the listener with songs that are both soothing and warm, as well as a little mysterious. The acoustic guitar, trumpet and theatrical polyphonic vocals create an organic landscape, that is being endorsed by an electronic foundation of synth (bass) and the effect pedals of the trumpet player. Last year, Lisa gained two prizes: de Grote Prijs van Rotterdam and the gain of a Rotterdam Music Award in November. “This act gave us a beautiful, mature and amiable atmosphere,” says the jury of GPR. She also released two singles that year, that are now followed by “The Hologram” coming March 26. This new single tells a story of two lovers, who feel so deeply connected to one another that they begin to embody each other’s dreams and existence. Even when apart, their love will endure like a hologram. What characterises the instrumentation are the heavy undertones and the bombastic brass arrangement, from which a wind gong, the airy and light vibrations of Lisa’s vocals and the acoustic guitar arise. This symbolises the contrast between day and night, presence and absence. This contrast is also weaved into the artwork. It is the third single of an EP that will be released in May. “It deserves the attention of the folk lover” according to 3voor12 Rotterdam. For fans of: Bear’s Den, Fleet Foxes & Ben Howard.
