Liam Pek goes his own way and takes the audience from genre to genre with a versatile yet coherent repertoire. He floats through influences of blues, Latin, 70's pop and jazz to bring about the endless creativity in his song writing and performances. Humorous quotes, compelling rhythms, trippy guitars and catchy melodies in combination with a free-spirited band ensure an infectious lust for life. Whether you want to dance the night away or float away in the humorous and moving stories of the lyrics, it's all here and it doesn't disappoint. It's Liberation Day in Amsterdam, the hot sun shining on the festival-goers, who dance just outside the tent where 19-year-old Liam Pek performs with his first band. Six years later, the world has changed, but looking back, Pek recalls, "I wrote two songs for that band, and one of them, the first song I ever wrote, was one of the best. You felt it every time we played it , people stopped talking and started listening." From the time he was a newborn, Liam's father (jazz flautist Jeroen Pek) began building a soundproof recording room in their home, though Liam was not expected to ever use it. "My father introduced me to music, of course, but he never taught me. I think he saw that I had to find my own way." So when self-taught Liam walked into the room one day, he had no idea he was about to write his first record. "There was a grand piano, a Fender Rhodes, and that was it. Some of his flutes were there too. I didn't play guitar then, I just used what was there. I started writing right away and couldn't stop." The result was 'From The Forest', his debut album, which will soon be followed by new EP 'Keep On Keeping On'.
