LEWIS makes alternative electronic pop music that reminds you of Bristol in the 90s, and Amsterdam nights of today. Inspired by names like Zero 7, Roísin Murphy, SAULT, Feist, Roísin Murphy, and Sophie Hunger, Lewis creates a sound all of her own, full of tight beats, tripping synths and guitars, flowing lyrics, and a distinctive voice. LEWIS is always uninhibited and on the move, searching for her place in this world. Her compositions are based on escapism, the need to forget the everyday, the turmoil and the inability to cope with it. LEWIS takes you to Cloud 9. A place to disappear, to numb, to escape. A space in the air, love, night, music or yourself. A shield for your skin, so that you can break loose and face reality head-on. LEWIS is Sjoukje Hoogma. She began her journey as a singer at a very young age. As a restless child, melodies run through her head daily, without her even realizing it, she became calm by using these naive melodies and her singing voice. She has been professionally active for years as a singer and actress on various stages. Among others as Anne Frank in 'ANNE' and 'He Believes in Me'. In these years, 2011 -2016, she completed the Theatreschool of Amsterdam and Masters as Jazz - singer/performer at the Conservatory of Amsterdam. She graduated with her own written compositions in collaboration with a jazz trio. After graduation, she has mainly been writing and took the time to learn how create her own music productions. In recent years she has retreated to her attic to become LEWIS.
