Horrible People Club started out as Joos Neven’s scattered thoughts and blunt ideas to prove loud and sexy synths and guitars aren’t doomed to be all that cliché. After Joos took the stage with Benefactors (coached by Tim Vanhamel (Millionaire, Eagles of Death Metal ...)) for a final time in 2019, it was time to step up the gear and transform those ideas into solid songs. Composer and multi-instrumentalist Koben Sprengers joined in to work on the songs and took on the role of bass player in the live line-up. That same year Horrible People Club recorded its first EP. During the recordings Sander Hermans (Whispering Sons) joined the ranks and took care of all the synthy weirdness Horrible People Club needed. Having had a taste of the music, Sander decided to join in live as well. The EP was recorded with Alessio di Turi (The Sore Losers) in Ultra Elektric Recordings and with Laurent Renders in Studio Lolo. Renders also took care of the mixing. Once the mastering was done, Maarten Jan Huysmans (Customs, Amatorski, Merdan Taplak, Rones ...) and Timmy Wolters (Benefactors) completed the full live line-up of the band. After months of rehearsing and a pandemic, Horrible People Club is now ready to take the stage and perform their pounding synth-rock tunes. Members of Horrible People Club have already shared the stage with The Cure, The National, Viagra Boys, Kurt Vile, Crack Cloud, Compact Disk Dummies, Nordmann, Iceage, Thurston Moore, Wire, Madensuyu, The Sore Losers, and The Subways. Current line-up • Joos Neven: guitar/vocals • Koben Sprengers: bass/samples • Sander Hermans: synthesizers • Maarten Jan Huysmans: drums • Timmy Wolters: guitar For fans of Soulwax, Millionaire, LCD Soundsystem.
