When Joris Boerma decided to start writing a couple songs for themselves in the first weeks of the COVID-19 pandemic, magic happened. One song turned to two - then many more - and resulted in a series of fuzz- and blues rock tunes with a heavy load of vintage soul, gospel and nostalgia. Boerma knew they had to start a band and Historian was born. Historian prides itself with a flavourful mix of old and new, where the timelessness of Led Zeppelin would meet with Jack White. Historian is driven by a fuzzed-out guitar accompanying a road-worn Hammond organ that, in tandem with a virtuosic rhythm section. The band’s live shows are electrifying, the excitement is high, and each of the four members are always ready to rock, as exemplified by shows at Westerpop, Noorderzon and Vicefest. With an IndieXL chart-topper in the form of the debut single “Generation”, the tone was quickly set. In October 2021 Historian released the largely DIY EP “Things of Pure Design”, which had the project create some local buzz. Now, with a debut album ready for take-off, Historian is ready for a scope far surpassing the sounds of the EP. The debut album is a more well-rounded and profound record with a matured, vintage rock sound. That is not all, however. In early 2022, Historian was selected into ESNS’ Hit The North development program, alongside ten other great artists from the north of The Netherlands. This program opens many doors for the project and gives a promising future to a talented vintage rock act, with performances at Eurosonic, Bevrijdingsfestival and much more to come! Additionally, Historian is the winner of the Play at Vicefest contest, granting the band opening slots at Vicefest Europe (Groningen, London, Berlin, Gent), and the band will be playing Popronde 2023 across the entire Netherlands!
