Guy grew up without having a piano in the house. No collection of old records to go through. No musical background whatsoever. So it was no surprise that the musician inside of him hesitated when Guy picked up a guitar for the first time. It felt right and foreign at the same time. \"I taught myself how to play but there were times when the guitar was just collecting dust.\" Still, there was something magical about that piece of wood. “Somehow that damn thing gives me freedom as much as it is a torture instrument,” says Guy about his guitar.\n\nThere has always been music inside of Guy, it just never found its way out. “I needed to work and provide. We had a hard time making ends meet, just another story of broken hearts and a broken home. Despite or perhaps because of it, words and melodies kept popping up out of nowhere. Through the years I really got into Blues, Soul and Country music. I can’t explain what the greats like Howlin’ Wolf, B.B. King and Johnny Cash do to me. Their music just resonates with me, it’s so pure and honest. Somehow, in some way, I can relate. I had such a hard time finding my place and honestly, I still have no clue what my part is in this strange play, we call life. All I know is that this mystery, all the questions, the world, people, it somehow inspires me and fuels the fire inside of me. I guess deep down, somewhere in the depths of my soul someone has been screaming all along. It just took me a long time to find that voice and use it.” \n \n “See the thing about making music is that once you’ve created something you want to get it out there.\" \"Possessed by fear, now looking back on the years it destroyed, any sense of joy, a helpless boy ...\" sings Guy on 'If Only I had'. “Always this fear, it's driving me insane. It's a terrible friend but such a convincing one. I thought I would never have the guts to get on a stage. One step forward and one step back, getting nowhere. I was second guessing myself all the time. \n\n\nUntil something changed when Guy and his girlfriend found out they were expecting their first child. \"I don’t know why but I made a promise to myself to step up, record my songs and make a demo.” And Guy kept his promise. He went into the studio with only lyrics, melodies, and a few chords. “Together with Maarten Tamminga of TMP Studio, I turned my little stories into music. We really just played and let it happen. The EP I had in mind turned out to be a complete album. It was such a valuable experience. I’ve learned so much during my recording sessions in the studio. I can’t thank Maarten enough! No more wasting time, I got to go out and play.”
