Adventurous pop-noir and artpop band from Holland with enchanting female vocalist with a whopping four octave vocal range. Four released albums: among them a live album and the studio album Nightporter, for several years distributed by record label Coast to Coast. A single and an EP followed in 2021. In October 2022 the new album Heroes and Foes was released. A new EP followed in the summer of 2023. A new music video was released in May 2024. They received beautiful reviews. Chabliz is recording a new EP right now, in 2025. The first track on the 3rd, Straight Stories album is recorded with featuring artist Fay Lovsky on theremin and singing saw. Chabliz took up influences from dreampop, rock, opera and gothic jazz. They won the Public Award of the Delft Fringe Festival (category ‘music’). In 2016 the band was invited to play in New York City, USA, and performed four concerts there, one of them at the Real Radio Show. Chabliz also performed on several occasions in Bucharest, Romania, on the Europafest Festival, Jeunesses Musicales, in several big theatres, in the Hardrockcafé and a television show. This trio plays piano, synthesizers, double bass, vocals and, sometimes, drums and guitar. They’ve been compared to ‘New Romantic’ and artpop bands (Bat For Lashes, My Brightest Diamond, Beach House, Kate Bush, Nina Hagen, David Bowie, London Grammar, Ute Lemper, Nico, Lydia Lunch and Nick Cave). Two bandmembers are also influenced by Joy Division. Between 2013 and 2024 the band released several (live) video’s on You Tube. The band gave many concerts in Holland and abroad, in all kinds of venues. During the corona crisis Chabliz gave several livestream concerts. The lion’s share of Chabliz’s repertoire consists of original, self-written compositions. About a fifth of the repertoire also includes sometimes very adventurous reinterpretations of existing songs beloved by the band — covers that are often so transformed they can hardly be called covers anymore. The original compositions cover all sorts of subjects, sometimes with a Lynchian touch. Danger, threat, and darkness are recurring themes. Sometimes a song is about (auto)biographical matters, sometimes about a film the band members saw, or a book they read. Sometimes it’s about a dream they had at night. Who Singer-songwriter Petra de Winter signed a solo record deal with major Roadrunner-Arcade (CNR). She performed at stages all over the world, including London, Copenhagen and Tunisia. In Holland she was a guest of Paul de Leeuw at his popular national TV show. Petra has also worked with other Dutch musicians and producers, such as Holger Schwedt, Leendert Haaksma, Nicko Christiansen (Nicko C), Arie Spaans (Suburbs, Naked), Cor Gout (Tresspassers W), Daniel Derks (ex-de Dijk), Hans Eijkenaar, Michel van Schie, Shell Schellekens, Mick Paauwe, Bobby Jacobs and Tjeerd van Zanen. She was the leadsinger of musical theatre group “Danse Macabre”. Petra studied at the DJAM and the Royal Conservatory. She also does studio work (vocals) for producers in several studios, and she is singer-songwriter and coproducer in the Copenhagen- based band “Olsen Winter”. She sometimes sang vocal lines for the Croatian group “Far Go Traders” too , and she produces her own songs. Double bass player Marcel Peters has performed four times on the North Sea Jazz Festival. He also accompanied jazz vocalist Faye Claassen and Mariska Veres (of Shocking Blue fame). He also plays the bass in the Woodstreet Bigband, and in several other jazz- and folk formations. Pianist-keyboardist and multi instrumentalist Pim van Riezen had some small hits with several house songs on the Rave Records label. He studied music technology and conducting at the faculty of Art, Media and Technology of the Utrecht School of the Arts. Pim plays pop, classic organ and jazz piano. His extra speciality is recording, mixing and producing. He loves vintage synthesizers and uses them in Chabliz too. Pim also sings in a classic choir. Pim has taken up a leading role in getting the self-produced Straight Stories and Heroes and Foes albums off the ground. Drummer Ap de Ree entered the finals of the important “Big Prize of Holland” with his band “The Butler”. He also played in new wave band Basic Scream, and formed a duo with his ex-wife, a gifted singer and pianist. They toured together for several years. Nowadays he also plays rockcovers with his coverband “Liverpool” and latin-american drums with his salsaband “Del Norte.” Ap de Ree left Chabliz in 2016, but he plays the drums on the Straight Stories album. Ever since Chabliz performs as a trio. Guitarplayer Rene Meester joined the band since summer 2012. He played in many bands, including The Faint Lights. He did the SAE and recorded and mixed his own songs with the Faint Lights. He left the band in 2013, but sometimes he’s still on stage or in the studio with Chabliz. He co-wrote one of Chabliz’ songs for the new ‘Heroes and Foes’album. Guest players of Chabliz are guitar player and songwriter Henrik Olsen, who lives in Copenhagen, and guitar player and studio technician / producer Marcel van Ling. Marcel owns his own Mosound studio and also did some studio work for the band. Cello player Giselle Bentvelsen (this is her website) plays cello on one of the new songs. She also accompagnied Barbra Streisand at her concert in Holland (in the Ziggo Dome). And of course we already mentioned Faye Lovsky before, who plays theremin and musical saw on the You were meant for me song. Chabliz’ first studio album “Nightporter” was produced by Wim Oudijk in his Discofair Studio. He had several top 40 hits in the seventies with his band ‘Navel’. Last years he worked with bands as a producer; Wim produced a.o. “Venus Flytrap”, “Attila the Stockbroaker” and the hitalbum of the famous dutch artist “Doctorandus P“. He co-founded the “Tresspassers W”. Wim also guest-produced the last track (The Swing) of the previous Straight Stories album. Sadly, he deceased in September 2016. Where Chabliz did five short tours of Romania (Bucharest) at the Jeunesses Musicales Festival and played there at the EUROPAFEST festival and at the Hardrock Cafe. Their concerts were broadcasted on the Romanian television. The band played extensively all over Holland, in all sorts of clubs, festivals and venues from 2002-2024. Some highlights are the several clubcircuit-stages and festivals all over Holland, The Hague Jazz Festival (where they played gothicjazz), the dutch “Popronde”, Festival de “Falckhof Affaire” and several live radio concerts, also for NPO Radio 2 and radio 5. In 2016 the band travelled to New York, USA, where they gave four concerts, one of them at the Real Radio Show. What The Live-to-DAT-recorded debut-album “Black Blue” was highly acclaimed by the Dutch music-press (a.o. OOR, Fret, Music Maker). Chabliz’ studio album “Nightporter” was produced by Wim Oudijk. This album got very good (even better) press-critics in the Dutch and international music-press. Amongst Chabliz’ fans and appreciators are several celebreties: the late Theo van Gogh, Van Dyke Parks and Adriaan Bontebal. Chabliz has released her ‘Straight Stories’ album in the autumn of 2017. A tour through Holland, Belgium and Germany was planned in 2019/2020, and then came corona. The Straight Stories‘ album was recorded in the band’s own rehearsal room and home studio, and entirely self-produced (DIY). Chabliz found their very own stagesound again, doing several try out concerts in the music cafe’s, livingroom and other festivals and in theaters, as a trio. During the coronacrisis in 2020 and 2021 the band gave and gives online livestream concerts on their YouTube channel. In the summer of 2020 the band received a grant from the Music Production Fund of Sena. In December 2020 (and also in the years after that) Chabliz fans also voted two of their songs into the Snob 2000; the band reached position 300 and 400. In 2021/ ’22 they gave several concerts again, released two new singles, an EP and their new ‘Heroes and Foes’ album (in Oct 2022) and they recorded a new music video that was released in May 2024. Track 1 van die EP behelst een epische, orkestrale versie van Joy Division's 'New Dawn Fades,' met operatesque vocalen en een compleet orkestarrangement dat het midden houdt tussen Philip Glass en Richard Wagner. De single 'Beyond the Tides' kwam uit in juli 2021. Ook gaf en geeft Chabliz tijdens de coronaperiode regelmatig livestream concerten, die te zien zijn op hun YouTube kanaal. De afgelopen jaren bracht dit trio diverse videoclips en live video's uit. Ook na corona ging de band door met livestream concerten, o.a. voor hun buitenlandse fans. Sinds kort geeft Chabliz daarop ook optredens met compleet geïmproviseerde livemuziek. Daarnaast schuwt de band de echte live podia bepaald niet. In december 2021 bereikte de band positie 507 van de Snob 2000 met hun song 'Moon.' In 2022 stond Chabliz met drie songs in de Snob 2000. In 2021 kwam ook het fotoboek 'Cancelled, by Anoek' uit. Daarvoor heeft de band geposeerd, als enige undergroundartiest tussen vele beroemdheden. Het boek gaat over artiesten die tijdens corona niet konden optreden. De opbrengst van het fotoboek gaat naar de in deze jaren zo hard getroffen cultuursector. In de zomer van 2023 brengt Chabliz een gezamenlijke EP uit met de Haarlemse band Dizzy Panda. In 2024 volgde de 'Senta'videoclip, die op internationale korte filmfestivals vertoond werd. In 2025 werkt de band aan een nieuwe EP.
