AlascA

Between 2010 and 2020 AlascA was the leading alternative voice in folk from the Netherlands. Whether it was the romantic introvert magic of debut Actors & Liars (2012), the spaghetti western sounds of Prospero (2015) or the prophetic protest songwriting on Plea for Peace (2018), the band had a Bowie-esque nag for re-inventing themselves. And so, most of their career was a dream come true. The band led by singer-songwriter and producer Frank Bond worked with Grammy Award winning producer Alan Branch, signed a UK record deal and became an independent whirlwind of success charting high with their 2012 debut and receiving airplay on BBC2 and BBC6. The group then toured extensively through Italy, Germany, the Netherlands and England playing venues such as O2 Academy, Sage Gateshead (supporting for Sinéad O Connor), Dublin Castle and Amsterdam’s Paradiso Main Stage. But, however big the praise from music lovers, industry hotshots, connoisseur DJs and journalists, AlascA never made it to the audience at a large. When COVID came the band decided it was time for a well-deserved break. After a 5-year hiatus the band now returns. Older, wiser and with a sound that you will not find with any other band. As the group’s frontman Frank Bond puts it: When you know who you are, you do not need to re-invent yourself anymore. You have become the invention.
