Musisum started in 2011 under its former name Penguin Artists. The objective was to give a platform to lesser-known and starting artists. Where in the beginning mainly radio airplay and smaller live performances were organised, this grew from 2015-2022 into facilitating online presence, increasingly larger festivals and the active promotion of artists.

As the opportunities the platform could offer artists increased enormously and the number of artists joining the platform grew rapidly, it was decided in 2022 to develop a completely new platform. This platform would emphasise fan building and fan communication: a direct link between artist and fan, so that a loyal fan base could be built up. In addition, it would offer features for radio airplay, live performances, music distribution, merchandise, concert schedules, etc. All of this would be managed by the artist himself from a personal environment and website, which would be unique in today's digital music world.

In 2024, this platform went live under the new name Musisum.
